Logistics
5 rules to keep France from becoming a marathon
Logistics that save your holiday.
- 01
The single-base approach
Choose one town as your base for three or four days and take day trips. Moving every day is stressful, not relaxing.
- 02
Real journey times
Google Maps is misleading. Allow 30% extra for traffic, parking and stops. Two hours become three.
- 03
Sundays and Mondays
Many restaurants are closed. Museums too. Plan activities for Tuesday to Saturday.
- 04
Book in advance
Good restaurants: 2–4 weeks ahead. Wineries: a week ahead. Museums: a day ahead, online.
- 05
A weather contingency plan
Rain is normal in France. Keep a museum, winery or covered market in reserve.
